I recently answered a question in a question and answer call for SuperFastBusiness members. And it was around the retainer model. What other ways can you charge to escape the trap of having a retainer-employee-like relationship?
You got all the angles here, you can do a revenue share deal with the eCommerce company, you can do a revenue share deal with all the agencies and all the people who you refer the same customer too, to get other things done that you don’t do because you’re now agnostic.
You could even do some revenue share deal with whoever provides the prizes. It doesn’t have to be the people themselves, you know? If you find a good prize, you could use over and over again. An example I’m thinking of is like the timeshare industry, for example. They give away accommodation, that’s their whole lead magnet, and they built a whole business around advertising around that. So there’s basically a lot of opportunity.
The other thing you could do is if you kept all of this away from the customer and you didn’t get them involved in it, and you just sell the leads. Because that’s a big industry. It’s just selling the leads to eCommerce customers and other service providers. That’s exactly the model that one of my students does. He builds an industry niche site, drives a lot of traffic to it, collects the leads and sells the leads.
In your case, you can keep marketing to that list. Yes, if you get people to provide a prize, you can give them a credit on their first 5000 leads or 2000 leads. And then you could sell the rest of the leads to them doing a co-op list-building thing, you know, which you can spell out in your terms and conditions. And you could even do upsells on the thank you pages and convert the backend via email.
Someone with your skills, you’ve just got so many options that the good news is you don’t have to rely on five to 10K clients who are going to come and then leave. You need to take a piece of the action. Stop being an employee for these people. Start being a partner or just own the thing. Just go and set up a few eCommerce stores. You’ve got too much skills. Basically, that’s your biggest problem.
